Author Guidelines

All manuscripts should be submitted electronically through our online submission portal. Please contact [email protected] with any questions regarding the submission process.

  • Submission or a work to the Journal of Women’s Sports Medicine implies that it is:
    • Original work
    • Not published elsewhere or under consideration for publication elsewhere
  • Authorship should be based on ICMJE criteria for authorship which should be confirmed by the corresponding author

All submissions should include the following:

  • Title page uploaded as a separate file, which includes the following information:
    • Title
    • Authors
    • Author affiliations
    • Acknowledgements
    • Corresponding Author contact information
  • Blinded manuscript
  • Disclosure Forms: All authors must download, complete and submit the ICMJE Form with their submission.

The Journal of Women’s Sports Medicine encourages the following types of submissions, particularly those that have taken a cross-disciplinary approach to address sports medicine topics in female athletes:

  • Original scientific articles
  • Review papers
  • Case reports

Original articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses should be formatted as follows:

    • Abstract (maximum 400 words)
    • Introduction
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Discussion
    • Conclusions
    • References
    • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end

Case reports should consist of the following structure:

    • Abstract (maximum 400 words)
    • Introduction
    • Case report
    • Discussion
    • References
    • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end

All manuscripts should be adhere to the following formats:

    • The submission file should be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
    • Single spaced text
    • Continuous line numbering
    • 12-point font
    • Employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses)
    • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end
    • Maximum word count 4,000 (excluding references)
    • References should be numbered in the order of appearance in the text
    • References should be formatted should be per ICJME guidelines
    • Where available, URLs for the references should be provided.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The text is single-spaced with continuous line numbering; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • Disclosures: All authors must download, complete and submit the ICMJE Form (http://www.icmje.org/disclosure-of-interest/).
